We are a little over a week into the new year and I am excited!! It was last January that I registered this domain name, with a hope, to start a little online business. I spent much of January, February, and March putting this site together. A lot of that time was frustrating. It was winter, the days were long and dark, and I was spending hours on the computer learning to put an e-commerce site together. I was thankful for the creative breaks where I would make soap and pillows. But having product build up led to sleepless nights. Wondering if any of it would ever sell? Maybe I would be left sitting on mountains of soap and pillows in our guest bedroom (which is no longer the guest room but the Honey Locust Home room). I was pleased when I did not end up sitting on all that soap and those pillows, and the web site worked! I launched the site in April, and those long days spent at the computer were totally worth it.
It did not stop at the website, I also spent a lot of time selling at local markets and craft shows. Our soap made a lot of great gifts over the holidays, and that makes me happy! Not only did I sell the soap and pillows locally, but I also made and sold: lotion bars, bath bombs and lip balm. If you ordered soap over the holidays, I sent a little sample of lotion bar with your order to try. I hope you liked it. Look for all those items for sale on the site soon:)
Some other items to look forward to in 2016 are: bubble bars, and a mens line that will included, beard balm and shave soap. These items will be popping up on the site over the next couple of months. One of my goals is do a better job on social media and emailing and keeping everyone in the loop with what we have going on and what is new in the shop (by the way, make sure you sign up to get our newsletter).
I am also committing myself to the blog part of the site. To be honest, once product started selling, I became consumed with production and keeping up. I am hoping this year brings a little more balance, and I can get back to the whole of this site, and why I started it. In addition to talking about my love of soap making, and about making the new products we are adding, I still want to talk about decorating and design. We have been doing little projects here and there, and look forward to sharing them with you. Josh is also excited about getting in gardens. He is looking forward to sharing his ideas in permaculture and what he is doing with you. We are looking forward to a great year and wish you all success and joy in the new year!!
